Offshore vs. nearshore: what actually fits building materials
Philippines or Mexico? Time zones, cost, and role type all factor in. A plain-English guide to choosing — from a team that staffs both.
“Offshore or nearshore?” is usually the second question owners ask us. Here’s how we think about it — without the jargon.
Start with the work, not the map
The right region follows the role. Overlap-heavy work — live phones, dispatch, real-time customer service — leans nearshore for the time-zone match. Heads-down work — order entry, data, back office, spec support — runs beautifully offshore, where the talent pool for those skills is deep.
Nearshore (Mexico)
Closest time-zone alignment with U.S. hours, strong for roles that need real-time overlap with your onshore team and customers. When the job is “answer the call now” or “coordinate with the field this afternoon,” nearshore shines.
Offshore (Philippines)
A large, English-fluent professional workforce with deep experience in customer service, accounting, and back-office roles — and a cost profile that stretches your budget further. For structured, process-driven work, it’s hard to beat.
The honest answer: often both
Plenty of our clients run a blended team — nearshore for the live, time-sensitive roles and offshore for the process-heavy ones. You don’t have to pick a side; you have to match each role to the region that serves it best.
